Sennheiser Releases The MKE 200 – A Compact On-Camera Directional Microphone
With the release of the new ultracompact, lightweight plug-and-play directional microphone from Sennheiser, videographers can now upgrade their on-camera sound.
The Sennheiser MKE 200 is a budget-friendly on-camera microphone, great for run-and-gun style video shooters and camera operators. It’s a directional mic with a pre-polarized super-cardioid condenser capsule, meaning it captures audio sources coming from the front, ideal for interview or testimonial video shoot settings.
The mic can be used with mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, smartphones, and tablets. It has a built-in wind screen and shock mount that can be mounted to any standard cold-shoe. It also comes with a furry windshield that can be slipped over the wind screen in case conditions outdoors get too windy.
The ultracompact Sennheiser MKE 200 (6.8 cm long and weighs 48.2 g) is a plug-and-play, battery-free mic, so any smartphone or camera with a 2 - 10 volt power source can handle it. It comes with two cables, one 3.5mm TRS for mirrorless and DSLR cameras, and a 3.5mm TRRS cable for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Interesting to notice is that the 3.5mm output is front-facing, so the camera operator won’t be disturbed by the cable while using a viewfinder.
